UK Schools Exams & Interviews
Preparation for school assessments and interviews that helps schools see your child clearly.
Preparation should help a school see your child clearly
Assessments and interviews can make children and parents anxious because they feel like a judgement on the child. In reality, schools are trying to answer a practical question: is this pupil likely to thrive here and contribute to the community?
What schools may be looking for
- Academic readiness and reasoning ability
- Curiosity and willingness to think
- Age-appropriate independence
- Communication and the ability to engage with another person
- Self-awareness and interests
- How the child responds when challenged or helped
- Potential contribution to the wider life of the school
Academic assessments
Preparation helps when it familiarises a child with question types, strengthens genuine gaps and improves examination technique. It helps less when it turns into endless drilling or tries to manufacture a level of performance that cannot be sustained after entry.
Interviews: think well, not sound rehearsed
Good interviewers want to meet the child behind the application: how they think, what interests them and how they respond when a question goes somewhere unexpected. Children who memorise model answers often become less convincing, not more.
What we develop
- Comfort in speaking with an unfamiliar adult
- Explaining an opinion and giving reasons
- Thinking aloud when the answer is not obvious
- Talking naturally about books, interests and experiences
- Reflecting on strengths and things to improve
- Asking and responding to thoughtful questions
Our principle
The objective is not to create a different child for interview day. It is to help the real child arrive confident, prepared and ready to engage.
