Why boarding pupils need a guardian

Most UK boarding schools ask pupils whose parents live abroad to have a guardian in the UK: a trusted adult who can act for the parents, look after the pupil during exeat weekends and half-terms, and respond quickly if something goes wrong.

What a guardian does

  • Acts as the school's main UK contact
  • Provides a home during exeats and half-terms
  • Arranges airport and school travel
  • Attends parents' evenings and reports back to you
  • Helps in an emergency or when your child is unwell

How we help

We work with accredited guardianship organisations and help you choose an arrangement that suits your child and meets the school's requirements.
